Sciton Moxi® diode-tulium laser

Laser power without long recovery time

Moxi® laser therapy is a treatment designed for patients who want to effectively and safely care for their skin, reduce the signs of aging, and restore their skin's youthful glow—without having to undergo invasive procedures with long recovery times.

Moxi® is a laser from the renowned Sciton brand that uses fractional technology. The laser heats the deep layers of the skin, stimulating natural regenerative processes. The treatment is highly comfortable and the recovery time is minimal.

Indications for the Sciton Moxi® laser treatment

Diode-tul laser therapy is a very versatile method of skin revitalization and resurfacing intended for patients who notice signs of skin aging, such as:

  • fine wrinkles and loss of skin firmness
  • tired, dull, and rough skin
  • discoloration, including freckles, melasma, sun spots (solar lentigo) and lentigines
  • uneven skin texture and enlarged pores
  • solar keratosis.

The Moxi® diode-tulium laser can also be used prophylactically to improve skin condition and slow down the aging process. The treatment is recommended for patients who want natural, gradual results without a long recovery period that would prevent them from performing their daily activities.

A duo for special tasks: Moxi® diode-tulium laser + BBL® HEROic™

Moxi® diode-tulium laser treatments can be performed as part of specialized treatment plans involving other technologies. Moxi® works synergistically with BBL® HEROic™ treatments because both technologies are part of a single treatment platform – mJOULE by Sciton. Treatment protocols dedicated to these technologies allow procedures to be combined into a single treatment session or arranged in stages, depending on the needs of the skin and the patient's expectations.

Sciton diode-tulium laser technology

Sciton Moxi® uses the energy of a diode-tulium laser with a wavelength of 1927 nm, which penetrates the epidermis and upper layers of the dermis. The aim of the light beam is to raise the temperature in the dermis to 45°C, with the laser acting selectively. This creates microthermal zones (MTZ) in the skin, with fragments of intact tissue remaining between them. Microdamage stimulates the tissues to begin intensive regeneration and repair processes, while the intact fragments of skin allow for faster and more comfortable healing. Stimulation of fibroblasts leads to increased production of new collagen and elastin fibers, which are responsible for skin tone, density, and firmness. Fine lines and wrinkles become less visible, as do enlarged pores and minor acne scars. Laser light also stimulates angiogenesis, i.e., the formation of new, strong blood vessels, which translates into better blood supply to the skin and, as a result, improved skin tone.

The Moxi® laser uses additional technologies to increase the effectiveness and safety of the treatment:

  • Measure Mode – the device automatically measures the treatment area and adjusts the treatment parameters to its size.
  • Intelligent Energy Delivery – the system monitors the speed at which the head moves across the skin and optimizes the intensity of the laser.

Benefits of Moxi® laser treatments

The most important advantages of Moxi® laser technology include:

  • Fast skin healing: Fractional technology preserves areas of undamaged skin, which accelerates the tissue healing process and minimizes the risk of side effects.
  • Short recovery period: The selectivity of the laser allows for safe, customized treatments that do not require a long recovery period.  The Temperature Sensor technology controls the skin temperature, preventing it from overheating.
  • High precision and sterility: Moxi® laser therapy is a highly precise method, and thanks to the use of very high energy and disposable head covers, it is also sterile. This translates into minimized risk of complications, a bloodless procedure, and a high safety profile for the therapy.
  • Personalization: The ability to adjust the laser parameters to the patient's needs allows for therapy of varying intensity and at different depths, as well as the treatment of many skin problems.
  • The possibility of using the Moxi laser in the LADD (Laser Assisted Drug Delivery) procedure. The procedure combines laser treatment with the application of drugs or preparations, which increases their absorption in the treatment area and improves the effectiveness of the therapy. The diode-tulium laser can be used in the LADD procedure in combination with, for example, platelet-rich plasma.
  • Time of treatment: A single Moxi® laser treatment lasts from a few to several minutes, which significantly affects patient comfort.
  • Versatility: Laser therapy can be used on the face, neck, and décolleté, as well as other areas of the body, such as the legs and the backs of the hands.
  • The laser is safe for all skin phototypes and can be used regardless of the season, provided that adequate protection against UV radiation is maintained.

The course of Moxi® Sciton laser therapy

Before each Moxi® laser treatment, a medical interview is conducted to assess the condition of the skin, discuss the patient's expectations, and establish an individual treatment plan. The doctor rules out any contraindications and selects the appropriate treatment parameters. The treatment area is thoroughly cleansed. The treatment is performed using a handpiece, which the specialist applies to the treated area or moves across the skin. The laser emits precise light pulses that create microscopic zones of controlled damage in the skin, stimulating regenerative processes.

The treatment can last from a few to several minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated and the type of therapy. For treatments covering more areas of the body, the procedure may take longer. During the treatment, the patient may feel tingling, warmth, and burning. Patients with a low pain threshold may opt for the use of an anesthetic cream.

Effects of Sciton Moxi® treatments

The results of treatments using this device are multidimensional and, depending on the problem being treated, include:

  • reduction in the visibility of fine lines
  • improvement in skin tone, firmness, and elasticity
  • brightening and smoothing of the skin, restoring its radiance
  • smoothing of the skin texture and reduction of enlarged pores
  • lightening of discoloration and evening out of skin tone.

The Sciton Moxi® treatment can be performed on any area of the face and body, depending on the patient's needs.

How long does it take to see results?

The first results of the therapy are noticeable after the first treatment, but for optimal and long-lasting effects, a series of 3-4 treatments at 4-6 week intervals is recommended. The number of treatments required depends on the indications and the selected treatment protocols. A detailed treatment plan is created based on the type and severity of the problem being treated, the patient's skin type, and many other factors.

The effects of the treatment may vary depending on the individual characteristics of the patient, the number of repetitions of the treatment, compliance with post-treatment recommendations, and the skill and experience of the person performing the treatment.

Pre-treatment recommendations for diode-tulium laser treatment

Two weeks prior to the treatment, avoid exposure to UV radiation emitted by both the sun and tanning lamps. A few days before the treatment, do not use cosmetics containing retinoids and AHA/BHA acids.

Recovery

Thanks to its non-invasive nature, diode-tulium laser treatment does not require a long recovery period. Immediately after the treatment, the skin may be red, swollen, and burning – these symptoms disappear within a few hours or a few days. The skin may peel slightly for 2–4 days after laser therapy. Most patients return to their daily activities on the day of the treatment.

Post-treatment recommendations

For 4 weeks after the procedure, it is recommended to avoid direct exposure to the sun and to use SPF 50 sunscreen. The skin should be cared for according to the recommendations of the person who performed the procedure. For at least 7 days after laser therapy, avoid intense physical activity, saunas, and swimming pools.

Contraindications

Sciton Moxi® laser treatments are not recommended for all patients. Contraindications for the procedure include:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Skin cancer
  • Active inflammation in the treatment area
  • Taking photosensitizing medications and supplements
  • Fresh tan

Inform the person performing the treatment about the above contraindications. This knowledge will allow them to decide whether the contraindications listed are relative or absolute obstacles to performing the treatment.
