Rosacea

Rosacea is a disease affecting mostly women, and its symptoms are initially mild. Transient redness of the skin in the area of the nose or cheeks appears as a result of stress, exposure to the sun or heat. With time, symptoms become more persistent, it becomes more difficult to cover them with makeup, and as a consequence, broken capillaries or characteristic lumps may appear on the skin. Rosacea needs to be diagnosed and treated. Acne Treatment Clinic specialists will help in choosing the appropriate therapy and will teach Patients the principles of proper skin care, which is crucial in the course of treatment process and maintaining its results.

Acne rosacea – symptoms and diagnosis

During the medical consultation, the dermatologist will diagnose the severity of disease and implement the appropriate treatment. Depending on the skin condition, it will consist of laser therapy and/or drug treatment. A mild form of rosacea is transient erythema, appearing most often in response to sunlight, stress, or heat (including from hot drinks, meals, and exercise). Symptoms do not always resolve spontaneously once the triggering stimuli are eliminated. Exacerbation of the disease is characterized by the change of transient erythema to permanent erythema, which may persist for days or even become permanent. Additionally, numerous "spider veins" (telangiectasias) appear on the skin, most often in the cheek area. The next stage of the disease development is the gradual appearance of pustules and papules with accompanying skin swelling. The most advanced form of this disease is the appearance of nodules and plaques with fibrosis and hypertrophy of the sebaceous glands occurring most often on the nose (nasal nodular hyperplasia).

The most effective treatment results are obtained by combining laser therapy and pharmacological treatment.

Laser therapy in the treatment of rosacea and erythema

Laser therapy Lumenis OneTreatment of rosacea and vascular lesions. The use of laser therapy in dermatology opens up new possibilities of treating skin lesions such as vascular lesions, erythema, small varices, angiomas or telangiectasias. An excellent solution is the use of a laser available at Zakrzewscy Clinic, the world’s leading brand Lumenis One with an IPL and Nd:YAG head. Laser treatments are currently the most effective method of erythema treatment. In the treatment of erythema we use the Lumenis One IPL (Intensed Pulse Light) head, which is an Impulsive Light Source. This device is considered to be one of the most effective and capable of achieving long-lasting treatment effects. Its use results in a reduction of the number of treatments needed to achieve a satisfactory effect.

Lumenis One is a laser with high precision based on the principle of selective photothermolysis. This phenomenon involves local damage to skin structures through their heating, while not allowing damage to surrounding tissues. The laser beam precisely reaches the selected area, for example dilated or broken blood vessels. Appropriately selected wavelength reaches the blood cells, and the energy emitted by the laser is absorbed by their red pigment (hemoglobin), causing a process of coagulation and destruction of the blood vessel. In the treatment of telangiectasia (spider veins) and lesions on the skin of intense red color (ruby points) the best results are obtained by using light waves of very high power emitted by the Nd:YAG head (length 1064 nm). During the Lumenis One treatment a slight burning sensation can be experienced. Possible side effects such as redness or swelling are temporary and disappear within a few days. After the procedure, it is recommended to use properly selected protective creams with high UV filters and avoid exposure to the sun. The effects of treatment are visible after an average of 4 treatments at intervals of about 4 weeks. Number of necessary repetitions depends on the number of blood vessels and the depth at which they are located. Each treatment is combined with a medical consultation, during which the therapy effects are assessed.
