Cherry angioma
Cherry angioma, also known as senile haemangioma, is a firm red, blue, or purple lump 0.1 to 1 cm in diameter that can develop on any part of the body, although it is most common on the scalp, face, lips, and trunk.
Cherry angioma, which is the most common type of angioma, is a symptom of proliferation of cells lining the inside of blood vessels. It usually develops on the skin of older people, but can also occur in younger people.
The cause of cherry angioma is unknown. It is not a lesion and cannot be contracted. However, because of the unsightly appearance of the lump, it can be a cosmetic problem.
Diagnosis of cherry angioma
Cherry angioma is diagnosed by a dermatologist on dermatoscopic examination based on its clinical features. In case of doubt, the physician may order a biopsy with histopathological examination to rule out cancerous lesions.
Treatment of cherry angioma
Cherry angioma is not a threat to the Patient’s life and health, so there is no need to treat this type of skin lesion. However, if the nodule is large, it attaches to clothing or is located in an exposed area such as the face, it is recommended to remove it in a dermatologist’s office. Angioma is removed by cryotherapy, electrocoagulation or laser therapy.
