Pearly penile papules
Pearly penile papules are small nodules 0.5 to 4 mm in diameter located in one or more rows on the corona of glans and in the genital groove of the penis. The nodules are usually elongated or dome-shaped, and pearly-liquid in color. These lesions occur in 8-43% of men and tend to disappear spontaneously with age.
Pearly penile papules do not cause pain, are not a disease and cannot be contracted. However, due to their unsightly appearance, they can cause psychological discomfort in a man. In this case, it is advisable to undergo penile papules removal surgery at a dermatologist’s office.
Causes of pearly penile papules
The cause of the appearance of pearly penile papules is not known. They are considered to be a physiological formation of the penile epithelium, not associated with any disease process. They do not pose a threat to the life or health of a man and they are not contagious. The occurrence of pearly penile papules is also not related to the lack of personal hygiene or sexual activity.
Diagnosis and treatment of pearly penile papules
Pearly penile papules are usually diagnosed on the basis of their clinical appearance on dermatoscopic examination. Distinguishing them from other genital lesions, such as viral warts or molluscum contagiosum, is usually not a problem for the physician
Treatment of pearly penile papules is not necessary because they are not lesions. However, they can pose a serious aesthetic problem and negatively affect the Patient’s psyche. In such cases, it is recommended to remove the lesions on the penis, usually using a CO2 laser, which does not leave scars on the skin.

The most popular method of removing pearly penile papules is the use of CO2 ablation laser due to its 100% effectiveness and lack of side effects of the procedure. Therefore, this method is successfully used in the Zakrzewscy Clinic.
