Fibromas
Fibroma is a nodule-like lesion (Acrochordon – senile fibroma), which in the vast majority does not pose a serious health problem. However, due to the fact that fibroma takes the form of an unaesthetic, soft (or hard) skin growth – it is often a persistent aesthetic and practical problem (fibromas often are attached by clothing or jewelry).
Fibromas generally grow very slowly and do not metastasize. They consist of loosely arranged collagen fibers and blood vessels surrounded by thickened epidermis of a leathery or light brown color. They are most commonly located in folds of skin – on the neck, under the arms and in the groin. Fibromas occur in both men and women, particularly vulnerable to their appearance are obese people and Patients with type 2 diabetes.
Causes of fibromas
The exact cause of the appearance of fibromas on the skin is not known. However, it is known that their occurrence can be influenced by:
- abrasions and irritations that occur as a result of skin rubbing,
- elevated growth hormone levels, especially during pregnancy or acromegaly (gigantism),
- insulin resistance (syndrome X),
- human papillomavirus.
How to remove fibromas?
Fibromas are usually difficult to hide and clearly disfigure the skin, so it is worth undergoing treatment to remove them. Optimally conducted fibroma removal therapy consists of two stages – a professional dermatological consultation and assessment of the nature of skin changes by the physician and selection of method and performance of the procedure to remove the fibroma. For removal and treatment of fibromas surgical and radiosurgical methods are used, and most often ablative laser therapy with CO2 laser.
