Angiogranuloma
Angiogranuloma is a common blood vessel disease that appears on the skin as a shiny red nodule with an irregular raspberry-like surface. The nodule, which usually does not exceed 1-2 cm, may be flat or pedunculated, and usually occurs singularly on the skin.
Angiogranuloma occurs in both adults and children, and is especially common in pregnant women. In adults, it usually localizes on the hands, fingers, feet, and trunk, while in children it occurs on the head and neck. Sometimes it also occurs on the lips or in the mouth.
Although angiogranuloma is a benign skin lesion, it can still cause great mental and physical discomfort due to its unsightly appearance and tendency to bleed profusely. Even minor trauma causes bleeding from the nodule that is difficult to stop, which can lead to purulent wounds.
To prevent further growth of angiogranuloma and prevent possible complications, it is worth taking dermatological treatment to remove the troublesome nodule from the skin.
Causes of angiogranuloma
The causes of angiogranuloma on the skin are unknown, but factors have been identified that may influence its development:
- skin trauma such as a prick,
- staph infection,
- hormonal changes in the body – angiogranuloma occurs in 5% of pregnant women, sometimes appearing as a result of taking oral contraceptives,
- taking certain medications, including retinoids.
Diagnosis of angiogranuloma
Angiogranuloma is usually diagnosed on the basis of its characteristic appearance and development. Sometimes performed dermatoscopic examination and biopsy with histopathological examination allow to confirm the diagnosis and exclude the neoplastic nature of nodule (some skin cancers look very similar to angiogranuloma).
Treatment of angiogranuloma
Although some angiogranuloma fade spontaneously, especially those associated with pregnancy or taking certain medications, prompt removal of the granuloma from the skin is recommended because of the nodule’s tendency to bleed profusely and the potential for ulceration.
There are several methods of removing angiogranuloma:
- surgical excision,
- laser therapy,
- cryotherapy – used for a small nodule,
- curettage and electrocautery (tissue burning),
- chemical cauterization with silver nitrate.
Removal of angiogranuloma with laser
One of the most effective and safest methods of removing angiogranuloma from the skin is laser therapy, which we successfully use in Zakrzewscy Clinic.
In our Clinic, the removal of skin lesions is always preceded by a professional dermatological consultation in order to assess the nature of skin lesion and choose the optimal method of treatment.
For removal of angiogranuloma we use modern Alma Pixel CO2 laser, which guarantees 100% effectiveness and safety of the treatment.
Innovative solutions of Alma Pixel CO2 laser allow to remove even extensive skin lesions without violating healthy tissues. The precision of this device allows to remove angiogranuloma also from those areas of the skin which require delicate treatment, which directly translates into high effectiveness of the therapy while minimizing the time needed for healing and convalescence.
