Permanent makeup removal
Permanent makeup is a very popular cosmetic trend. A beautifully highlighted eye with an impeccable line or the fact that the color of the lips does not have to be corrected during the day encourages many women to have permanent makeup done. Men are also increasingly opting for pigmentation, especially of the scalp. However, as the number of treatments increases, so does the demand for permanent makeup removal.
To remove subcutaneous pigment it is necessary to visit an aesthetic medicine clinic and undergo a series of treatments using laser. In Zakrzewscy Clinic, we offer a very effective and comfortable method of permanent makeup removal using the modern Discovery Pico Plus laser.
Why is permanent makeup removed?
Many people who have undergone permanent makeup treatment sooner or later want it removed. The most common reasons are:
- The pigmentation procedure was poorly done, and as a result, the face looks worse than it did before the procedure.
- The skin lip contour, eyes and on the cheeks has sagged, causing the permanent makeup to lose its original shape and color.
- Fashion has changed, so makeup done years ago looks unattractive and even ridiculous.
- The person wishes to change the color of the lips and the frame of the eyes.
What are effective and safe methods for removing permanent makeup?
Skin pigmentation is most safely and effectively removed using a modern laser. In the case of permanent makeup, the procedure usually involves very delicate parts of the body such as the skin around the eyes and mouth. It is therefore extremely important that the procedure to remove pigmentation is carried out by a physician with extensive experience and high skills in operating a laser beam in the facial area. Incompetent handling of the laser as well as the use of an old generation device may lead to burns, wounds and scars.
The permanent makeup removal procedure involves breaking down the pigment under the skin with laser light. The laser pulse heats the ink particles causing them to break down into microscopic particles, which are then excreted by the body. Removing permanent makeup with a laser requires several sessions to maintain the integrity of the skin and give the body time to remove the broken down pigment. However, with each session, the skin pigmentation will become less and less visible.
Permanent makeup removal in the Zakrzewscy Clinic of Aesthetic Medicine and Dermatology
At the clinic, we offer our Patients an effective and comfortable permanent makeup removal procedure using the Discovery Pico Plus laser. This innovative laser enables safe removal of the ink regardless of its color and location.
The Discovery Pico Plus laser uses a unique photoacoustic technology, so there is almost no risk of scarring, burning or overheating of the skin.
In Zakrzewscy Clinic the procedure of permanent makeup removal is performed by physician Magdalena Stokowacka-Zakrzewska, a member of an elite association of laser therapy specialists ESLD.
What does the permanent makeup removal procedure look like?
The procedure of pigmentation removal is preceded by a medical consultation, during which the physician discusses with the Patient the course of the procedure and recovery. He also makes sure that there are no contraindications to perform the procedure. In order to ensure maximum comfort for the Patient, the physician applies an anesthetic gel to the area from which the dye will be removed. Then the physician proceeds to irradiate the skin. The high precision of the laser allows to direct the light beam exactly on the pigmentation area, so there is no risk that the untreated skin will be irradiated.
Thanks to the innovative solutions used in the Discovery Pico Plus laser (including a very short duration of the impulse which covers a large area of skin), the treatment takes from several to several minutes. After the treatment the skin is protected with a sterile protective foil.
How many sessions does it take to remove permanent makeup?
The permanent makeup removal procedure requires 2 to 10 sessions at 6-8 week intervals. The number of sessions depends on the color of the pigment, the depth of application of the dye, the Patient’s skin type, the area from which the makeup is removed, and the quality of the permanent makeup. With each successive session the pigment becomes fainter and less visible. However, the time needed for the makeup to disappear completely depends on the individual circumstances of the Patient.
What are the contraindications to permanent makeup removal?
There are several contraindications to a laser permanent makeup removal procedure. These include:
- pregnancy and lactation,
- fresh tan,
- active skin infections in the area where the treatment is to be performed,
- there must be a minimum of 6 weeks between the application of permanent makeup and the first treatment to remove it,
- henna performed on the treatment area a minimum of 4 weeks prior to treatment or later.
What is the recovery like after the procedure?
You should treat your skin gently for the first 24 hours after laser permanent makeup removal. Above all, avoid sun exposure and alcohol consumption. You should also not touch or massage the areas where the dye was removed or apply makeup. Sauna, swimming pool, gym and cryotherapy are not recommended for 2 weeks after the treatment.
It is important to protect treated skin with high SPF 50 sunscreen for at least 6 months after laser makeup removal.
