Perioral dermatitis

If you are struggling with a painful papulopustular rash around your mouth that has been present on your skin for a long time, then you probably suffer from perioral dermatitis. This condition can also appear in the form of purulent pimples and red, scaly patches located mostly on the chin and lip contour.

Perioral dermatitis is a variant of rosacea and requires dermatological treatment. If left untreated, the rash intensifies and the condition of the affected skin gradually worsens.

The cause of dermatitis lip contour is most often due to corticosteroid use on the face. Sometimes the painful lesions appear as a side effect of oral steroid medications or steroid inhalers taken for another condition. In some Patients, hormonal changes in the body and abnormal skin microflora may also be the cause.

In the treatment of perioral dermatitis, it is crucial to correctly identify the cause of disease and eliminate it. Only then is it possible to begin appropriate pharmacotherapy to cure the inflammatory lesions of the skin around the mouth and on the chin.

In Zakrzewscy Clinic we offer Patients a comprehensive therapy of acne lesions, including perioral dermatitis. In order to provide Patients with a quick and accurate diagnosis, and then effective treatment, we have established the ROSACEA TREATMENT CLINIC. The Clinic offers not only effective acne treatment, but also individual recommendations for skin care at home, diet and prevention of the disease.

Patients who are worried about their skin lesions are invited to have a dermatological consultation in our Clinic. During the consultation Marcin Zakrzewski, MD, PhD analyzes the condition of Patient’s skin, determines the cause of skin changes, diagnoses the degree of disease, and then proposes an optimal method of treatment for the Patient.

For perioral dermatitis, treatment includes:

  1. Elimination of triggers and exacerbators of the disease.
  2. Pharmacological treatment with isotretinoin taken orally. Isotretinoin has a rapid and positive effect:
    • Reducing the inflammatory reaction of skin lesions,
    • Regulating the production of sebum produced by the sebaceous glands,
    • Normalizing keratinization processes within sebaceous-hair follicles, which are responsible for the formation of unsightly blackheads on the face.
  1. Proper skin care at home with dermocosmetics individually selected to the Patient’s needs.

During treatment for perioral dermatitis, the Patient’s skin condition is monitored regularly, thus that the physician can respond quickly if there is a need to modify therapy.

At the Clinic, our priority is always the health and comfort of the Patient, so we make every effort to ensure that the treatment methods proposed by our physicians bring the best results in the shortest possible time.
