Micro-needle radiofrequency

Micro-needle radiofrequency is a technology designed to improve the quality and appearance of skin with signs of ageing, such as wrinkles and sagging, as well as to improve the appearance of skin with minor scarring, uneven tone and lacklustre complexions. It is unique in that it combines the action of radiofrequency (RF, which heats the treated tissues to stimulate them in order to regenerate and shrink old collagen fibres) and the benefits of micropuncture (i.e. controlled skin damage aimed at stimulating skin repair processes). The technology demonstrates a high degree of safety and efficacy, and the innovative solutions used in modern platforms allow for increased depth of action while increasing patient comfort.

Technology

The effectiveness of micro-needle radiofrequency is based on a combination of two proven technologies - acting on the skin using radio frequency and micro-needle puncturing. The device head performs controlled thermo-mechanical damage in the dermis using a disposable cartridge equipped with gold-plated micro-needles, replaceable for each patient. During the treatment, the target tissue is heated to a temperature of 60 to 80°C, allowing old collagen and elastin fibres to coagulate and stimulating fibroblasts to produce new ones. The mechanical and thermal injuries performed with the head motivate the skin to initiate intensive repair processes and the secretion of growth factors, resulting in increased skin thickness, firmness and elasticity. The depth of the punctures and the strength of the pulse depends on the treatment area and the indication. The maximum depth to which the needles penetrate during treatment is 3.5 mm. The use of an appropriate treatment protocol allows for thermal effects on tissues to a depth of an additional 4 mm (7.5 mm in total). Higher treatment parameters are typically used for body treatments (e.g. stretch mark reduction, reduction of skin flaccidity in the knee, elbow or abdominal areas resulting from pregnancy or large weight loss) or for mature skin or skin requiring strong effects (e.g. acne lesions, high flaccidity, hyperpigmentation). Lower treatment parameters are used for more sensitive areas of facial skin, such as the eye area.

The most important advantages of the treatment include:

  • Versatility: the treatment is recommended for skin rejuvenation and scar treatment and can be performed on the face, neck, décolleté, hands and body.
  • Safety: the parameters of the device are adjusted to the individual predisposition and needs of the patient, including skin phototype and treatment area.
  • Innovation: the duration and strength of the pulse are controlled by artificial intelligence (based on the resistance offered by the tissue), which results in reduced treatment time, increased safety and Patient comfort.
  • Efficacy: the positive results of micro-needle radiofrequency treatments are clinically proven.
  • Comfort: modern technology allows RF energy to be delivered deeper than the tip of the needle, enabling deeper penetration without physically puncturing the tissue.

Indications

Micro-needle radiofrequency is a treatment with a broad spectrum of indications. It is used both in anti-aging prevention and to reduce the visible signs of skin ageing. The technology is used to improve skin quality, remodel the skin and initiate intensive regenerative processes. The main indications for the treatment include:

  • flaccid skin that lacks firmness and tone
  • wrinkles and deep furrows
  • discolouration
  • dull and tired complexion
  • uneven skin texture
  • sagging contours of the face
  • small scars, including acne scars

Course of treatment

Each treatment is preceded by a detailed interview with the patient, during which contraindications and the treatment plan are discussed and the specialist answers all questions. The area to be treated with micro-needle radiofrequency is cleaned and disinfected. Those with a low pain threshold may opt to use an anaesthetic ointment. The specialist then adjusts the parameters of the device according to the patient's skin type, the area to be treated and the intended results. The treatment is performed with disposable cartridges that are replaceable for each Patient. Prior to the treatment, a disposable passive electrode is applied to the Patient's body in the form of a gel patch. Its insertion and removal does not cause any discomfort. The location of the passive electrode depends on the treatment area (e.g. if the treatment involves the skin of the face, the passive electrode is glued to the shoulder blade area). The purpose of the passive electrode is to allow the waves to flow through the patient's body.

The practitioner applies the head of the device to the treatment area spot by spot. During this time, micro-needles puncture the skin and deliver a radiofrequency electromagnetic wave deep into the skin, which heats the tissues in a controlled manner. Depending on the treatment protocol used and the medical indication, the puncture depth can be up to 3.5 mm, but the use of the extended mode allows for thermal effects at a depth of an additional 4 mm. It is important to note that the micro-needles extend from the head and puncture the skin and only send an impulse when the head is correctly applied to the skin surface. The technological solutions used make it possible to achieve therapeutic effects after only one pass of the head over the treatment area (each place on the skin is exposed to RF only once during one treatment session), which shortens the treatment time and significantly increases its comfort. During the treatment, the patient may feel warmth and pricks.

The treatment plan is adjusted individually for each patient. Usually 2 to 5 treatments are performed at intervals of several weeks, taking into account the complete healing of the skin between sessions. The therapy can be repeated after 6-9 months, when tissue remodelling has been completed.

Effects

Micro-needle radiofrequency produces results in improving the quality and appearance of the skin. By stimulating natural regenerative processes and stimulating the synthesis of new collagen and elastin fibres, it increases skin tone, density and firmness. This also results in a gentle improvement of the facial oval. Skin texture is smoothed and discolouration becomes lighter. Micro-needle radiofrequency reduces the appearance of wrinkles and also improves the aesthetics of small scars, including acne scars. The complexion becomes radiant, refreshed and revitalised.

Results may vary from patient to patient and the final effect of the treatments depends on a number of factors, including the patient's individual circumstances and adherence to post-treatment recommendations.

Pre-treatment indications

Micro-needle radiofrequency treatments do not require any special preparation on the part of the Patient. Before starting the treatment, jewellery and other metal items such as a watch or trouser belt should be removed.

Post-treatment indications

Direct exposure to sunlight should be avoided for several days after treatment. Patients are advised not to apply make-up for the first two days after the procedure. Any situation where the skin could become infected should be avoided, i.e. use of the sauna, swimming pool, gym, etc., until the skin is completely healed. Products with SPF 50 should be used throughout the treatment period as well as afterwards.

Recovery

The skin in the treatment area may be slightly swollen and pinkish - these are natural symptoms that should subside within a few days.

Contraindications

  • Infections and skin diseases in the treatment area
  • Diseases of the immune system
  • Taking isotretinoin within the last 12 months
  • Autoimmune skin diseases
  • Radiotherapy and chemotherapy
  • Metal implants near the treated area or permanent implants in the treated area
  • Implanted pacemaker or automatic defibrillator/cardioverter
