Lumenis ULTRApulse Alpha
Ultrapulse Alpha CO2 laser is a high-energy short-pulse CO2 laser, which can be successfully used both in treatments to improve the aesthetics of scars, skin rejuvenation or removal of benign skin lesions. Thanks to the advanced systems and solutions used, this laser is characterized by reliability, high efficiency and precision. Maximizing the effectiveness and reducing the duration of the entire therapy are due to the very high laser power and short pulse.
Indications
The ULTRApulse Alpha CO2 laser is characterized by its versatility in treating diverse skin problems, such as:
- scars, including acne scars, hypertrophic scars, atrophic scars and keloids
- stretch marks
- flaccid skin lacking tension and firmness
- skin requiring thickening
- wrinkles
- hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone
- rhinophyma - nodular hyperplasia of the nose occurring in rosacea
- benign skin lesions
How it works
Depending on the skin problem the Patient is experiencing, the operator can adjust the laser parameters such as its power, treatment spot size, depth of action and micro-damage intervals, thus applying an optimal, personalized treatment protocol to increase the effectiveness of the therapy and reduce its duration. Thanks to the possibility of personalizing the parameters, laser therapy using the ULTRApulse Alpha platform can be used both in the treatment of various types of scars, in anti-aging treatments and in the removal of benign skin lesions.
Laser therapy in scar removal
The technology used in the fractional laser can be used to reduce the visibility of scars of any type - post-surgical, traumatic, burn and acne scars, including keloids, hypertrophic scars, as well as atrophic scars.
The most common treatment for scars is the fractional laser, which is designed to destroy scar tissue in a controlled way so that it is replaced by new, healthy tissue. The laser emits high-energy but short-pulse light beams that momentarily penetrate the tissue of the treatment area and induce ablation in it. As a result, the water in the cells is heated, which leads to their destruction by evaporation. This creates a large number of micro-damages in the skin - perpendicular micro-channels called microthermal treatment zones (MTZ), which initiate the process of intensive skin regeneration. Thanks to the precision and selectivity of the laser, the resulting micro-damage is sterile, has a well-defined diameter and depth, is evenly distributed, and leaves areas of undamaged tissue (known as bridges) in between. The body treats these precise microdamages as tiny inflammations, which trigger the increased production of growth factors that initiate a stable and slow autoregeneration of the skin. The tissues gradually undergo a remodeling process that allows them to regain their healthy structure, become flatter, more elastic, better supplied with blood and hydrated, which translates into an overall improvement in the appearance of the scar and a reduction in its visibility. An additional benefit of fractional laser treatment is that the high temperature of the laser beam shrinks old collagen fibers, which densifies the skin and reduces the size of the scar.
The results of scar therapy depend on a number of factors, including the timing of treatment, the size and type of scar, and the Patient's individual characteristics. Although in most cases scar therapy involves a series of treatments, due to the high power of the laser and the ability of the beam to penetrate the skin deeply, in some cases just one treatment session can bring the desired effect.
Laser therapy in anti-aging treatments
The goal of laser therapy in anti-aging treatments is to trigger the skin's natural regenerative processes, which in the long term translate into improved skin quality and condition, i.e. increased firmness, thickening, hydration and uniformity of skin tone.
Fractional technology is used in treatments aimed at initiating skin auto-regeneration processes, as in treatments to improve the aesthetics of scars. The use of appropriate scanners makes it possible to split the ablative laser beam in such a way as to precisely make micro-damages in the treatment area with precisely defined parameters in terms of their depth, width and distribution. These microdamages are created when the laser beams penetrate the tissues, and then their energy is absorbed by the water in the cells. There is immediate heating of the water contained in the tissues and vaporization of the water. The heated water evaporates along with the tissue it was in, and the whole process is called ablation. The micro-damage created in the vaporized tissue areas is treated by the skin as damage that must be healed immediately. They become a signal for the skin to initiate an intensive and long-lasting regeneration process, which results in deep remodeling (remodeling) of the skin. Stimulated to work intensively, fibroblasts begin to produce new collagen fibers, increased amounts of elastin and hyaluronic acid. New blood vessels are also formed in the skin. In addition, under the influence of the temperature generated by the laser action, existing collagen fibers are shrunk, resulting in a positive lifting effect. The idea of leaving the skin undamaged between the microchannels, which is at the heart of fractional technology, allows the healing process to be accelerated, makes the recovery period less onerous and reduces the risk of side effects. Laser skin resurfacing makes it possible to rejuvenate the appearance of the skin, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, discoloration and minor scars, as well as to thicken and firm the complexion even in the most delicate areas, i.e. the eye or lip area, for example, while maintaining a high degree of safety of the procedure.
The first effects of laser therapy are visible after just a few days, when the skin begins to peel, but it is necessary to wait from 3 to 6 months for full results. The results of the procedure vary between Patients and depend on many factors, including the type and severity of skin aging symptoms, the Patient's individual conditions, the number of procedures and adherence to post-treatment recommendations. The results of laser therapy for skin rejuvenation can be visible for up to several months, but they weaken over time due to the daily effects of external factors and the progressive aging of the skin. At that time, you may decide to repeat the treatment to maintain the effect.
Laser therapy in the removal of benign skin lesions
Ablative lasers, thanks to their high-powered action, are used in dermatosurgery for the precise removal of benign skin lesions, such as fibromas, epidermolysis bullosa, warts, pearly papules, nasal lumps and many others. Thanks to the modern solutions used in the laser, the lesion tissue is destroyed and vaporized bloodlessly under the action of the light beam. The high temperature and lack of direct contact with the skin translate into a high degree of safety of the procedure and its sterility. The site after removal of the lesion is covered with a scab, and healing takes place through granulation, which minimizes the risk of scar formation which is unavoidable during surgery. The procedure is short, and the use of anesthesia helps minimize any discomfort for the Patient. For the treatment of benign skin lesions, it is often possible to completely remove the lesion during a single procedure. The skin after laser therapy does not require stitches and remains smooth after healing.
Technology
The effectiveness and high degree of safety of the laser is based on the use of thoughtful and modern solutions aimed at achieving high standards of treatment quality while increasing Patient comfort:
- The combination of high laser power (240 watts) and a very short pulse duration allows for maximum ablative action enabling water vaporization and controlled damage to the epidermis and top layer of the dermis in a faster time.
- Alpha Air Brush technology allows for working over a large treatment area while delivering high-powered light pulses. This improvement also affects the speed of the laser and its selectivity and precision, as the collimated light (with parallel beams) goes exactly where it should.
- Thanks to SCAARFX Mode technology, the laser is able to penetrate the skin to a depth of up to 4 millimeters, which makes it suitable for treating scars, for example. The precision of the laser translates into the ability to work only on the treated area without the risk of overheating the skin or damaging surrounding tissues.
- The TotalFX system allows treatment at different penetration depths during a single treatment, which translates into maximizing the effects of the treatment without increasing recovery time.
- The BrushFX™ scanner allows the laser parameters to be tailored to the Patient's needs by being able to adjust the spot size, the density of the microdamage and its "pattern," which is the way and spacing at which the laser beam reaches the treated area.
- The CoolScan™ contact cooling system translates into increased Patient comfort and minimized recovery time.
Recovery
Immediately after fractional laser treatment (skin resurfacing and scar treatment), the Patient feels warmth in the treated area, and the skin is red and slightly swollen. This is followed by epidermal peeling. These symptoms are natural and subside within a few hours or days, depending on the size of the treated area and the depth of penetration. Full recovery takes about a week, while skin peeling and scabbing should subside within 2 weeks.
In the case of skin lesion removal, wounds may appear immediately after the procedure at the site of lesion removal, and the skin may be sensitized, irritated or slightly reddened. Recovery time depends on the type and size of the lesion being treated, but a scab that appears on the treated area should fall off spontaneously after a few/some days.
Pre-treatment indications
A minimum of one month before laser therapy, one should stop sunbathing, forgo exfoliating treatments (such as chemical peels), stop using cosmetics, medications and photosensitizing herbs (including chamomile or nettle), and do not use acids. You should refrain from smoking 2 weeks before the procedure, and do not consume alcohol on the day of the procedure.
